M/Y Betty Ann is a 1989 Vista Yachts 43′ aft cabin motor yacht. She has about 1900 hours on her Caterpillar 3208 TA 375 hp turbo diesel engines. We are the fourth owners. The first owner bought her new in 1989 and used her until 2006. He put about 1400 hours on her engines in 17 years. The next owner had her from 2006 until 2009. He put about 100 hours on her in 3 years. The third owner, the people we bought her from, bought her in 2009. They put $20,000 in engine work, completely refurbished the interior and rebuilt the sundeck roof to support the 11.5′ dinghy and motor. They put about 200 hours on her in 6 years.
Betty Ann is an ideal Bahamas cruiser. We took her on a 1000+ mile trip through the Bahamas last summer and it was the time of our lives. She has a 3’6″ draft so the shallow depths of the Bahamas are no problem. 135′ of anchor chain spliced into 150 of line, attached to a Spade anchor, hoisted by a brand new Lewmar anchor windlass makes anchoring a breeze. We spent about half the time in the Bahamas at anchor, and it was wonderful.
The 8kw Kohler diesel generator with Yanmar engine has about 1750 hours. When we bought the boat, I had it serviced by the Kohler dealer, and they put a new water pump on it. I changed the oil every 100 hours, and the filter every other oil change. It runs beautifully, and will easily run all three air conditioning units and keep the boat at 75 degrees with no problem.
When we want peace and quiet and shut off the generator, the 1.2 kw in sovello solar panels on the roof of the flybridge supply all the power we need except for the air conditioning. There are 8 group 31 AGM 115 amphour batteries on Betty Ann, and we will have no shortage of storage.
The 11.5′ West Marine Hypalon RIB tender with 25hp Johnson 2 stroke outboard is indispensable in the Bahamas. It is our “car” to get around. It will easily plane with four people to get us into town in a hurry.
